From search to viewing, in one app.

No agents in between and no fees. You deal with the owner of the house.

  1. Search where you want to live

    Open Nearby to see homes around you, or go region by region down to the ward. Narrow by furnishing, type of home, rooms and price.

  2. Look properly

    Every listing has 5 to 10 photos taken in the app at the house, with its price, how many months are paid at once, and where it is.

  3. Talk to the owner, book a viewing

    Message the owner right under the house you're asking about, and ask for a time to go and see it. Share a house with family so they can decide with you.

Photos taken on the spot

Owners can't upload pictures from their gallery. Photos are taken in the app, at the house, so a listing shows the actual home.

Location from GPS

The address is read from where the owner is standing when they post, and it can't be edited afterwards.

Listings are reviewed

New listings and reported ones are checked by our team. Anything that breaks the rules comes down.

Report and block

Report a listing or a person in two taps, and block anyone you don't want to hear from.

Your data, your choice

We collect only what the app needs, and you can delete your account at any time from the app or from this website.

Never pay before you've seen it

Maskani Makao never takes payments. If anyone asks you to send money before a viewing, that is a warning sign. Report it.

Finding a house to rent in Tanzania usually means agents, fees, viewings of homes that turn out to be nothing like the photos, and phone numbers passed from hand to hand.

Maskani Makao is a simpler way: owners list their own homes, with photos taken at the house, and tenants search by the places they actually know — the region, the district, the ward — then talk to the owner directly.

It's free for both sides, in English and in Kiswahili, and built for the phones and connections people really use.

Questions people ask.

Does it cost anything?

No. Searching, messaging, booking viewings and listing a house are all free, for tenants and for owners.

Can I browse homes on this website?

Not yet. Homes are seen in the app, with a free account, so that owners know who is asking about their house. This website is where you learn about Maskani Makao and get the app.

Is there an iPhone app?

Not at launch. Maskani Makao starts on Android, where most people in Tanzania are.

Does Maskani Makao collect rent or deposits?

No, never. All payments are between you and the owner, after you have seen the house. Anyone asking you to pay through a link or before a viewing is not acting for Maskani Makao.

Someone sent me a link to a house. Why did it open this website?

Shared houses open in the app. If you don't have the app yet, the link shows a page explaining how to get it. Once it's installed, tap the same link again.

How do I delete my account?

From the app's settings, or on the delete account page, which works even if you no longer have the app.
